Concord's Historic Millpond
In 1971, residents were concerned and painted over the slogan emblazoned on the side of building, "Asleep at the switch?  Not by a Dam Site.”

The Friends of the Falling Waters Trail are in need of volunteers to help keep the trail right-of-way free of encroaching vegetation.

On the first Saturday morning in March, volunteers will meet to clear and trim back brush that has grown into the trail right-of-way.  In Adopt-A-Trail fashion, we are forming teams that will be assigned to specific sections of the trail.  These teams will take pride and ownership in the condition of the trail relative to established specifications. There are two types of teams being recruited.

General clearing teams:
Team leaders/co-leaders willing to organize and oversee the work of up to ten people (to work-delete) on their assigned section.
Volunteers with chainsaw experience.
Volunteers willing to assist in stacking brush, applying stump killing materials, other clearing operations and standby safety monitors.
Jobs can be found for all volunteers.
SAFETY FIRST!
Eye protection is mandatory and must be supplied by the volunteer.
Hard hats are suggested and must be supplied by the volunteer.
Heavy work gloves and foot gear with good tread are suggested.
Ear protection is suggested.

Tree Felling Teams:
The Falling Waters Trail will, for the foreseeable future, have a continuous supply of relatively small dead and dying trees because of the Emerald Ash Borer.  These pose a danger to trail users and present maintenance problems because of falling limbs.  We are forming special three and four man crews with chainsaw and tree felling experience to be dispatched on an as-needed basis to address this problem.

We need for each team:
At least two people with chainsaw experience and one of the volunteers must be willing to discuss experience with felling trees.
People willing to donate their personal chainsaw and other equipment to this project.
SAFETY FIRST!
Eye protection is mandatory and must be supplied by the volunteer.
Hard hats are mandatory and must be supplied by the volunteer.
Ear protection is suggested.

This is an outstanding opportunity for groups or individuals to give back to the community in a positive and rewarding way.
